Art vs. Fashion: Lake Como ( The Italy that I Pictured)

 ART

While walking through the maze-like walkways of Como, and passing by retail stores, I came upon this stone building that looks to be a religious place of some sort. I took this photograph because I found the detailing very different, especially the curved lines at the top of the triangular arch. Architecture is something that sparks my creativity and inspires me to design because it can be interpreted artistically in so many different ways.

FASHION

Designer:  Antonio Berardi
Fall/Winter 2011
London

Antonio Berardi's, an Anglo-Italian designer, takes major inspirations mainly from the street and brings it to the world of high fashion. When designing his pieced/patchwork coats, his detailing lies within the intricate layering of heavy material with the use of cocoon shapes.

-_-_- As mentioned in Vogue Italia -_-_-
Mood/Style:
"Antonio Berardi speaks a language of heightened glamour and hardened femininity for A/W. Offset by the beautiful, antique surroundings of Drapers Hall, his collection is inspired by Goethe and his desire to ‘refashion the fashioned.’ Berardi looks to efficiency, tight tailoring and clothing construction. He takes a simple coat and inserts panels of punctured felt and plays with the proportion and fit of a skirt through back and front origami pleating. And heavy cocoon coats feature over contrasting slim fit trousers."

"Evening wear is intricate in construction, pretty and feminine yet also daringly revealing; sheer embroidered lace front inserts sat in metallic dresses which curved around the body, and stitched in sequin uppers over free flowing maxi skirts resemble modern couture. And refreshing and bold are the red and green lame looks which slither over the body with poise, glamour and an old sexiness with a thigh high slit. Drama is there through a heavy black studded Dracula cloak and a completely sheer lace embroidered maxi dress. Throughout the collection, Berardi stays true to his vision and the audience is enraptured."

Lengths:
to the knee, pants turned up at the ankle, mini

Color:
white, cream, grey, black, sequin detail, glossy red, green lame

Fabric:
textured knit wool, crochet, sheer, satin, embroidered lace, lame, sheepskin

The art and the fashion correlates with each other in the way that the coat resembles the curved lines above the triangular arch and the use of sharp clean lines.
